I recently purchased a deep fryer and while I know it’s not the healthiest thing in the world it is the most fun and quickest thing to cook with ever! I have been whipping up cajun style fried chicken like a machine.

When I do eat something I can almost feel my longevity decrease by the bite.

I also got a toaster over which is hella good fun and fast.

While I may die sooner from owning these things I think it’s a fair trade-off.

I recently bought an AppleTV via ebay. While I was initially disappointed with the product when it first came out, as Apple could have done so much more, I decided to get one when I saw a very good deal on a unit. A large part of the decision is that they are very hackable and my TV tuner on my Mac now has set top box support. I did sell my MythTV box to a friend as both was overkill.

When I looked at the amount of TV and movies I had stockpiled, realizing it would take  couple of months just to catch up, I decided to downgrade my cable to the bare-bones package and was even considering cancelling for a while. When I did downgrade my cable the good folks at Comcast managed to remove my cable instead. It would not have been so bad but talking to their support at 3am, who claimed no changes had been made whatsoever, and having been put on hold for 20 minutes at a time more than once before being disconnected put me over the top. They have the worse support. I’m sure there are a couple good techs but they are few and far between. Considering the absurd price for cable I was going to cancel and even had the order for Dish Network filled out.

I had the joy of being up extra early on Saturday morning waiting for the tech to come to my house since the phone rep claimed the problem had to be my internal wiring. We all know how often a 75ohm coax cable goes bad. Which is of course never.

The installer was a nice guy and my experience with them has always been good. This is a nice contrast to the morons at their call center. I asked him if there was a decent deal he could give me to keep me as a customer. I now pay a third less for my cable and have HBO free. The price is locked for a year. I consider it to be what the price should be anyway but since it’s only for a year I suspect I will be a satellite customer shortly there after…

This has been a strange holiday season for me thus far. I want to feel the spirit of Christmas, as I love the holiday and what it represents, but so far it’s accompanied by a melancholy that I’m finding difficult to shake.

A Charlie Brown Christmas was on last night but I couldn’t watch the whole thing. I know why but I’m not going to go into it here. I am hoping my brother, sister, and myself get to watch it together before Christmas.

I am wondering if there’s any interest in streaming the Rocking Phil Fish Christmas guitar music but regardless I’m going to do that shortly. Maybe that will help me get Christmas on?

I’ve been sick more times this season than any other I can recall.  Home sick today with cold chills while sweating.  I slept over 19 hours yesterday and had really hoped that would do the trick but no such luck.

I hate the guilty feeling that always accompanies being home when I should be at work but at least I’m not infecting my coworkers.

Despite having plunked down the dough for an iPhone I’m not at all unhappy to see that Google is working towards an open source platform for phones although the motivation isn’t exactly altruistic IMO. More cell phone users being able to utilize Google’s growing mobile services can’t hurt as they continue to build that aspect of their empire.

Having hacked the living crap out of just about every cell I’ve owned I can say that something more unified would be nice. I’ve wasted too much time and energy in the past just to defeat the wankers that want to charge me a $1.50 to change my wallpaper or ringtone.

I do wonder what the effects will be on the OpenMoko project and whether it will add to or detract from that projects efforts?

I had been meaning to add this to the site for a while and, since I was doing a little house cleaning, I finally got around to it.

Not as dark (or funny) as the truly wonderful posters at Despair.com but if you like Star Trek these are a must.  I strongly recommend printing, framing, and hanging these at the desk of any friend or associate that doesn’t like Star Trek.  It may help them become a better person and, if they don’t like the franchise, they probably need the help!

So go visit the Star Trek Inspirational Posters now!

I’ve been thinking about changing the look of Phildo.org for a while now. I like the current look fine but it’s had the same design forever.

The only thing holding me back is the time as I know myself and know that I could get a little cumpulsive and even let my perfectionist side take over.

I would really appreciate it if you, the few but proud readers of this site, could take the poll below and share your thoughts on this one.

Phildo.org needs a face lift poll.

Thanks for your input! :)

This week  I caught  The Sarah Silverman  Program  for the first time and have to say that I loved it!

Her songs remind me of when I was in Nak Nek, Alaska working for Inlet Salmon.  Not that the songs remind me of fish so much but when I was living in the bunkhouse one salmon season there were these mormon guys that were absurdly “holier than thou”.  I have nothing against the religion itself but I didn’t care for the judgmental attitude of these two cats.  I was dating a mormon girl and they were constantly warning her that I would corrupt her, I was dangerous, yada, yada, yada.

To show these guys what a caring person I was capable of being I borrowed an accoustic guitar and wrote a song called “Kill the Children”.  I then got just about everyone there to sing along with me outside their room and spread the love.  The tune itself was catchy but more importantly it spread an important message.  There are just way too many children in the world and something has to be done!  While they would never admit it I think deep down inside they really liked the song.

I think the first time I ever saw Sarah Silverman in something was the flick “Something About Mary” although I’m not certain of that.

What I am certain about is that she is funny and she is hot.

Very, very, hot!
